Bad News Bells - August Bells Delayed to November

We just learned that our Back to School Bells (that were supposed to arrive this week) have been delayed.

Bells Delayed Until November

We just learned that the Deskbells that were supposed to arrive this week are not going to arrive until November.

This means that most folks who backordered bells in hopes of a Back to School delivery time frame will not be getting bells on time.

This is super upsetting to us as we're sure it is for many of you. The bells are still on the way, but the shipping company is saying things are a month, if not two months behind.

What To Do About Your Order

If you are one of the folks who preordered bells, you should have received an email about next steps.

If you haven't received an email, please reach out to us at so we can help you out ASAP.

Based on your order, you have 1 of 2 options:

Option 1: Free Digital Membership Upgrade

  • If you keep your order as is, we’ll ship the bells ASAP (November) and we’ll create you a Prodigies Plus account with curriculum access until until January 2023. This gives you roughly 4 months of Prodigies free, which you can use to stream all kinds of music lessons until your bells arrive. There are hundreds of singing, rhythm and other non-bell lessons to work with and we'll be releasing more Ukulele and hand-sign lessons this September!

Option 2: Request a Refund 

  • If you're trying to have bells ASAP for the Back to School season, we totally understand and we will refund you your order right away.

  • We'd suggested grabbing some CNDB-D Bells on Amazon (same colors, different box), which make a good alternative and should ship pretty quick. These don’t come with the same Prodigies box and they’re not backed by our 2 Bell, 3 Year replacement policy, but they are the same core instrument if that helps.

    Why So Late?

    We're not 100% sure why these bells are so late. We have had multiple points of contact with the supplier this summer saying they would arrive in August.

    Then last minute, literally in the final days of the month when we figured they were 1-2 days away, they reached out in a very informal way to say "the bells are 2 months behind."

    Changes We're Making Here at Prodigies

    This is roughly the 3rd time that we have had a major shipment get randomly delayed like this. The ETD for bells has gone from 3 months to 8 months, which makes it even more unpredictable.

    And to make matters worse, Deskbells hurt our small business. By the time the manufacturing, importing, shipping, advertising and delivery all take place, we're often lucky to pocket $5-$10 of profit on that sale. But almost just as often, we're likely to lose $5-$30 on a sale if shipping is expensive, difficult, or the package gets lost and needs to be tracked down or replace.

    All of these reasons and more means we're going to be getting away from the Deskbells a bit and focus more on our videos and digital curriculum.

    It happens almost every week that we're in the middle of some awesome video project and then BAM -- inventory troubles and expenses mean we need to pivot energy away from content.

    And this is largely so we can be a one stop shop for both curriculum and instruments, which we will continue to be to some extent, but more and more we are turning our efforts away from being a retailer of instruments and more and more back to the videos that got us started.

    Before I knew about this Deskbell delivery issue, we were already planning some of these changes earlier this August, and below you can see an earlier announcement I filmed about this change. 

    This unexpected turn of events is messing up a lot of things over here at our small business and we appreciate your patience as we work through this situation. We're hoping you can respond by email to let us know how you’d like to proceed (Option 1 or 2).
